The First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sodiq Safoyev, met with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation, Tatyana Moskalkova.
At the meeting, issues of expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia were discussed, particularly the exchange of experience in human rights protection, the development of the rule of law, and the support of civil society institutions.
Mr. Safoyev noted that under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, special attention is being paid to ensuring human rights in Uzbekistan. In this regard, the role of the parliament and the institution of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) is increasing.
In turn, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation noted the reforms carried out in recent years in the country aimed at protecting human rights, ensuring social justice, and raising citizens’ legal awareness. She expressed her readiness to develop cooperation between the two countries in human rights protection.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue practical interaction on deepening ties in human rights within the framework of the ombudsman institutions and interparliamentary relations.
